Burnham 2 – Glebe FC 2  (Burnham through 13-12 on pens) –  11th November 2023 – Dean Butler

An epic penalty shootout  at the 1878 stadium sees the Blues progress to the 3rd round of the ISUZU FA Vase.

Following a minutes silence before kick off as a mark of respect on Armistice Day Burnham welcomed Glebe FC to the 1878 stadium for second round of the FA vase and it was the visitors who got off to a flying start taking the lead after just 3 minutes following a good move which saw them open up the home defense.  A fairly even match with both teams playing some good attacking football it took the hosts 35 minute to get back onto level terms a great turn and ball over the top from George Butler found Anas Igozoulin on the charge he carried the ball into the 18 yard box and slotted home under the visiting keeper.

With the first half drawing to a close a great individual goal from Firas Chniba put the hosts in front, Firas won possession on the half way line and a great run saw him outpace the opposition and cooly finish past the keeper. A great cup tie with Burnham just edging it and taking a lead into the second half.

The second half continued to be a great cup tie with chances at both ends  both keepers being called into action. It was Burnham who came closet to extending their lead with the post saving the visitors on this occasion. With both teams still creating plenty of opportunities it was the visitor who levelled on the 75th minute with a great strike. The final 15 minutes saw both goals lead a charmed life but neither team could get the decisive goal to win the match  in 90 minutes and the cup tie went straight to a penalty shoot out.

A remarkable 26 penalty shoot out followed with all 11 players from each team taking a penalty. It took a great save from keeper Dennison with the score at 13-12 to Burnham to seal the win with credit to both teams and both keepers for a superb cup tie.
